In 1986, a small 50's-themed restaurant opened it's doors in Sedro Woolley, Washington. Car owners were invited to showcase their classic cars at the Grand Opening of JJs Restaurant. Classic car buffs brought 32 blasts from the past that auspicious day and began making plans to turn this "meeting of memories" into an annual event
.
JJs Summer Safari Cruise-in made its first annual debut in July of 1987. The event's name was the creative combined use of the Beach Boys song "Surfin' Safari" and the restaurant owner's 1955 Pontiac Safari Wagon. JJs Summer Safari Cruise-in has since expanded into a 3-day event held at Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport, Washington.
The event was such an enormous success that in April of 1988, and in conjuction with the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, the first annual JJs Tulip Cruise was born at JJs restaurant. Car owners exhibited about 90 cool classic cars that unforgettable rainy day. The event was televised on "Cruisin' Northwest", which gave the group widespread public attention. The Club has since renamed the event April Showers Show and Shine and the volume of participants has increased with each passing year.
In the wake of that fateful April event, classic car owners rallied together to start a car club. Since JJs was where it all began, and was the "place to be" for classic gearheads, the group decided to name their club "JJs Cruisers".
Since the inception of JJs Cruisers, another classic car show has been added to the Club's calendar. In partnership with Sedro Woolley's Founders Day celebration, the event was held at Riverfront Park in Sedro Woolley.
As JJs Cruisers Club has developed and grown, its purposes have expanded as well. Members realized that their love of cars could benefit the comunity that they love so much. JJs Cruisers have worked in cooperation with their community and other clubs to support a wide variety of charities and projects. The Club recognizes the need to give back to those who have given so much to them by admiring their cars and participating in their events making them a successful club.
